Copy products

Have you ever had the problem that you have received a new product from the manufacturer that belongs to an existing configurable product or that you want to copy a product including all existing translations?

We have the solution for these problems. With the function "Copy products" you can make a copy of one or any number of products and use this product data as a basis for creating new products.

Copy one product​

Step 1: Select product​

Select the product which should be copied by clicking in one of its cells.

Step 2: Copy product​

Go to the cobby tab "Tools". Then click on the button "Copy products".

What happens?

When copying, a new row is added to the end of the table. All attribute values of the original product are taken over and the values of the cells SKU and Product Key are automatically emptied. This is done because both SKUs and product keys must not be assigned twice, as they represent a unique identification variable in Magento. The SKU must now be entered manually, whereas the product key is generated automatically when the products are saved in Magento.

Step 3: Define SKU​

Define a SKU for the copied product and change any deviating attribute values.

Attention:

→ Configurable products:

When copying a configurable product, exactly these "old" links remain. These must therefore be adapted when creating a new configurable product.

→ URL Keys:

When copying, the existing URL key is also copied. If this is not changed, it can lead to double URLs.

→ Copy from All Storeviews:

When copying from All Storeviews, the copied product is created for all websites and thus all storeviews. If you copy a product from another storeview, a specific website, the product will be created in all storeviews of the website and All Storeviews (as a collection of all products).

Example: You own the following websites:

  • test shop end consumer (Storeview English, Storeview German)
  • test shop retailer (Storeview English, Storeview German)

→ first case: You copy one product from All Storeviews.

The product is created in All Storeviews; test shop end consumer-English; test shop end consumer-German; test shop retailer-English; test shop retailer-German.

→ second case: You copy one product from test shop end consumer-English.

The product is created in All Storeviews; test shop end consumer-English; test shop end consumer-German.

Step 4: Save products​

Click on "Save products".

Copy several products​

If you would like to copy several products or a product for which, for example, the translations already exist in the storeviews, proceed as follows:

Step 1: Load products and storeviews​

Load the products and the desired storeviews using the cobby filter.

Step 2: Select the respective products​

Select the products that you would like to copy. (Tip: For products that are not directly below each other, press and hold the "Ctrl" key. Click with the cursor on the products that are to be copied).

Step 3: Copy products​

Go to the cobby tab "Tools". Click on the button "Copy products".

Step 4: Define SKU​

Define a SKU for the copied product and change any deviating attribute values, e.g. the colour/size/storeview or similar. The same SKU is entered for each storeview entry if the translations are to be transferred.

Step 5: Save products​

Click on "Save products".
